I discovered today a loophole in my plan. Subway sells the veggie n cheese sandwich for $5 ... which I am sure most of you (whoever you may be) know. I knew that! I was a closing manager at Subway years ago (pre-Army). But I never actually ate one. Who would want a salad in bread? Well, hold the cheese and the gasps, what this thing needs is an applause!
This morning was a rush. I surprised my kids with a trip to Blue Bayou Water Park in Baton Rouge. I refused to tell them where we were going until we rolled in the gate, but my oldest two were suspicious. I kept telling them that they would want to be surprised. Plus, I knew if I told them last night there would be no sleep ... for any of us. I also knew that if I told them this am ... well ... that they would love it but I wanted to torture them. When we got the bathing suites out and all the beach gear, they were ecstatic. When it comes to water, they get riled up over a puddle and permission to stomp in it. So I rubbed salt in the wound as we exited the interstate. You can see the park from the exit. It's right there. So I pulled into a gas station as the kids were wollupping. They have always wanted to go there .. and always ask every time we drive by ... but we have never had the opportunity and, by the looks of the other parents' faces as they chase their crying toddlers, I never hated myself enough to take them young. Miley, my three year old, was a handful but the older two really helped the situation out.
Anyways, as I pulled out of the gas station I pretended to be going somewhere else and their hearts sank. But I wouldn't let them be too hurt (I'm not abusive or a sicko). I let the cat out of the bag and instantly went from zero to hero.
So in all that, what was breakfast? If you have been following along, it's usually the same thing. This morning I wanted unique, new. So ... considering time and the like, I had toast and some great coffee (black). I know ... that's it? I told you ... I love building up things just to drop a nothing bomb.
The point: by lunch I was considering eating out of the trash can ... or just grazing in the grass growing in the corners of the park. At least that would keep to my diet! So off to Subway we went. I saw that sub ... and the fresh 9 grain whole wheat bread ... and the love affair was set. I held the cheese out to be good, but stuffed that thing with every vegetable (other than the jalapenos) available. A little oil and vinegar and bang! That things was a well needed piece of heaven. All I could think of was Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is A Place On Earth." I know she was referring to me back then (at least that's how I took it when she would look at me through that TV) but ... still ... that was my heaven.
We returned to the water park with vigor and spunk. After my youngest vacationer was thoroughly wore out, we left (around 5pm). The torrential downpour also helped. I got the kids a ice cream cone from Sonic then hit the road headed for Cracker Barrel.
Dinner? Whole grain pancakes (on the list) with egg whites. The pancakes were cooked with blackberries. I will be reproducing that. Anyone who knows me knows I cook. And one of my specialties is breakfast. And when I say cook, I don't mean assemble foods from boxed stuff. I mean I cook from scratch. I will be working on a wonderful whole grain pancake recipe.
Now, as I sit here and the day is being wrapped up, I have more motivation to keep after this. I have you! But I also just watched a video recording of me playing live on Sunday ... the day I began ... and I ... MUST ... LOSE ... WEIGHT! It was awful. I am truly a skinny fat guy (the name of one of the bands I was in back in the day). I will fight this and I will win ... and you should win with me!
Till tomorrow, thanks for sitting in with me.
